Offered is a Tamami Shima woodcut depicting two birds in a grove of trees. Notable in this print is Tamami’s ability to utilize the natural grain pattern from her carving block to create beautiful organic patterns in the landscape of the print. The print is signed and dated 1957.
Tamami Shima (1937-1999)
Born in Hirosaki, Japan, she studied at the Tokyo Women’s University of Arts. She worked in Tokyo in the early 1960’s then later moved to the United States.
