Swiss Baroque Painted Chest of Drawers c.1740
From the estate of descendents of Felix Mendelssohn, a Swiss Baroque painted chest of drawers in walnut. Likely made in Bern around 1740.
Rectangular body with convex front comprised of four graduated drawers and being raised on flattened bun feet. Faux bois painted featuring cartouches of buildings on drawer faces. Feet likely later. Drawer interiors lined with “herrnhuter kleistpapier” (paste paper) characteristic of Bern furniture makers.
Good overall condition with some losses to paint and drawer lips, scuffs and scratches.
