Primitive Heart Pine Chest
This country made heart pine chest made in the 19th century has probably been used for many purposes over the years. It's unique configuration of two drawers over a double door cabinet is just an intuitively utilitarian design; a jelly cupboard...a sideboard...a linen press or dresser.
49 inches tall by 37 ⅜ inches wide by 17 ¾ inches deep.
This piece was painted at some point and some signs of paint remain. There are patches, nail holes and pegs and nails from various periods; the door lock was changed and new hardware added at some point. The drawer interiors have been whitewashed.
Due to wear on the drawer runners the drawers tilt back slightly.
Overall the piece is in good farm-raised condition.
