Fine Scottish silk-on-linen sampler worked by Elizabeth Muir, aged 13 years, Burton, September 8, circa 1822, of East Lothian parish, featuring alphabet and number panels above parents' names William Muir and Elisabeth Stephen, likely of Ayrshire, amid family initials, central cartouche with crowned strawberry vine wreath enclosing maker's name and age, flanked by floral stems with birds atop, small dog, basal strawberry urn, and strawberry border panels worked in characteristic Scottish motifs of crowns, stylized birds, and strawberry plants using rich polychrome silks with counted thread stitches on fine ivory linen.
