Queen Anne Style Walnut Bureau Dressing Mirror, English, 19th Century

An English dressing mirror in the Queen Anne style, made in walnut and burl walnut with oak secondary wood, 19th century. The rectangular plate has a shaped, arched top and sits in a moulded cushion frame, swivelling between two shaped uprights with scrolled tops. The tilt is set by brass tightening screws with ring pulls on each side.

The base is built as a miniature bureau. The slant front is veneered in bookmatched burl walnut and drops onto two pull-out lopers with brass knobs, opening to a fitted interior of four small drawers with brass knobs, pigeonholes with shaped dividers and a central shelf. Below is a single long drawer with a shaped front and brass escutcheon. The case has canted front corners, a moulded base and bracket feet. The drawer linings and the back boards of both the case and the mirror are oak.

The key, fitted with a gold silk tassel, is included and works both the slant front and the long drawer locks.

ConditionThe bookmatched veneer of the slant front has original veneer patches. There are veneer repairs. There is a small veneer loss at the lower right corner of the long drawer front. Light foxing to the mirror plate. Scattered marks and scratches to the surfaces throughout.
