Carved Wood Venus, Mid 20th Century

A carved wooden figure after the Venus de Milo. Likely Southeast Asian, mid 20th century. She stands with her weight on one leg and her head turned slightly and her gaze lowered, the drapery slipping low on her hips and falling to a rectangular plinth, with one bare foot showing at the front. The arms end in clean-cut stumps, following the missing arms of the original.

The hair is carved in waved strands drawn back into a knot, with a long lock falling down the back. The carving continues all the way around the figure, including the back of the torso and the drapery.
