A similar pair of bleached mahogany English Chippendale side chairs, circa 1760.

Gothic interlaced tracery backs with finely pierced openwork of interlaced arches and foils above molded stiles, squared front legs with beaded edges, joined by H-stretchers.

One crest with central shell carving, the other with projecting volute ears.

Upholstered in a later yellow damask cut velvet upholstery.

Height 37 ¾ in, width 21 in, depth 19 ¼ in; seat height 18 ½ in.

ConditionDisplays repaired cracks and seperation at joints, but stable and reinforced, repaired stretcher with fills, dings appropriate to age.
