Gesner Armand was one of Haiti's foremost impressionist painters. Born in 1936 in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti, Armand joined the Centre d'Art in 1956. He went on to study in Mexico from 1958 until the end of 1959 returning to Haiti for a solo show at the Centre d'Art where this early painting was featured. He was awarded a scholarship by the French government in 1961 and spent two years there before returning to Haiti to become director of the Museum of Haitian Art at the College of St. Pierre. He returned home to Croix-des-Bouquets in 1992 and continued painting until he passed away in 2008.

This wonderful abstract features birds and a mango or similar fruiting tree. The vivid colors are a nice blend of cool and warm tones creating a lively yet calming window into Haiti's natural environment.
It is large, measuring 28 by 49 inches.
The small profile gold leaf frame is a good complement for this painting.
